Party Favors
This party started with the party favors. As soon as I started planning, I spent lots of time scanning Etsy for fairy goods. There is so much cute handmade stuff out there! I found a wonderful shop that had some gorgeous fairy soaps. I was able to customize my colors (green and purple, with fairy dust of course) and request unscented soaps. The shop owner even gave me a discount on my order since she is just getting started!
With these beauties, I added a painting sheet and some butterfly and Disney Fairy silly bands (are these crazy popular all over, or is is just Colorado?). There were several other things for the kids to take home related to the activities.
Activities
Fairy Dress Up
As the children arrived, I had some coloring pages waiting upstairs. The ones I chose were from the Flower Fairy Alphabet Coloring Book. I tore out one corresponding to the first letter of each guest's name. Once all of the guests had arrived, we headed to the basement Fairy Room. As we got to the bottom of the stairs, I had fairy wings waiting for all of the kids who wanted to wear them. I was hoping some of the boys would get into the theme and put on the wings, but none did. (The boys were also older than the birthday girl who was turning three.) The girls, however, were so excited for their wings. They each put them on, wore them throughout the party and took them home. I got the wings along with clip on flowers at Halo Heaven, but have also seen them at the dollar stores around Halloween.
Fairy Wands
A fairy needs a wand, right? I had dowels and wooden stars ready for the kids to make their own wands. Ribbon was tied around each wand in colors chosen by each child. Glitter was applied to the stars and hot glued to the dowels. Unfortunately I used the wrong kind of glue on the stars so the glitter took a very long time to dry and the wands had to sit on a table until the end of the party. I would have preferred that the kids be able to play with them right away, but lesson learned. They did turn out beautifully though!
Fairy Dust
And since no fairy is complete without some fairy dust to sprinkle, I had small bottles filled with colored sanding sugar for each child. The kids has to find these, though it wasn't difficult in our small basement. (If the weather had been just a little warmer, we would have gone outside to find these.)
Fairy Dancing
Dancing turned out to be our main activity! I dowloaded some beautiful fairy songs by Maria Sangiolo and gave each child a fairy dancing ring to dance with while our fairy music played. I had wanted the ring part to be wooden, but could not for the life of me find wooden rings to purchase. I ended up with some metal macrame rings (do people still macrame?) and tied lots of ribbons, bells and some leftover tulle. Of course the kids took these home as well.
Stay tuned for the fairy cake and paper goods!
