My daughter got it into her head last year right after her second birthday that she wanted her next party to be a fairy party. We aren't really "princess" people, so I wanted to make sure it was magical without being too "frou-frou". She also wanted to invite some of the boys from school and our neighborhood and, of course, her brother would be there, too.
I envisioned a woodland fairy party, but with her birthday in January and us living in Colorado, I wasn't betting on an outside party. So operation "basement fairy room" commenced. I tried to use things around the house to make our basement look festive and like a place fairies would gather.
The canopy from her bedroom became a little fairy hideaway.

Some stools and a small table became mushrooms.

A pole that serves as support became a tree complete with a bird's nest (found in our backyard last summer) and bird. I brought down a fake plant and our small Christmas tree with all of our fairy related ornaments.

Butterflies made from paper were hung from the ceiling with mono filament.
